Who We Are
Fennel the Dragon is a Reformed Christian children's story series set in a valley where anthropomorphic animals and a few humans live. The stories were created by Matt Arozian, with assistance from Claude the AI (made by Anthropic) and Gemini the AI (made by Google).
The stories are written for families — theologically honest, unhurried, and more interested in God's character than in easy moral lessons.
Staff
Fennel — Chief Dragon Officer
A small green dragon with wings, retractable claws, and the ability to breathe both fire and ice. Lives in a house near Whispering Woods with eastern windows and a deep porch. Curious and artistic, skilled at noticing problems but struggles letting others help. His scales glow softly by firelight.
Chirp — Director of Enthusiasm and Faithfulness
A sparrow living in a miniature replica of Fennel's house inside Fennel's home. Communicates entirely through chirps that Fennel understands perfectly. Never fails to show up and never complains. Core competency: Being present and never missing a prayer.
Baxter — Senior Pastor and Head of Hospitality
A raccoon living in a stone den near the old bridge. Almost always brewing tea and carries a walking stick when traveling. The valley's wisest person, teaching through questions. Shows up before asked and provides shelter and theological guidance during crises.
Stickles — Chief Observation Officer
A porcupine living in a cozy hollow beneath old pine tree roots in Whispering Woods. Moves slowly and deliberately, noticing details others miss. His stillness represents spiritual discipline rather than caution, making him difficult to fool.
O.T. — Chief Theological Officer and Resident Encyclopedist
A blue elephant with large ears that flick when interested. Possesses perfect memory for genealogies, Scripture, and ancient trade routes. Connects ancient truth to present need with patience and quiet joy.
Abe — Chief Engineering Officer
An orangutan with reddish-orange fur and four useful hands. A builder and practical problem-solver who sketches solutions before problems are fully described. Confident and matter-of-fact about challenges. Emphasizes the distinction between apes and monkeys.
Stanley — Director of Listening Services
A beagle with warm presence and exceptional empathy. Lives in a sturdy burrow on the hillside. Known for sitting with people having difficulties rather than rushing to fix things. Despite being quiet, he can sing and asks thoughtful questions.
Other valley residents include Burleigh the bear (warm, direct, deep voice — hibernates spring through fall); Melody the badger (choir director and composer); Rosemary the baker (knows what people need to eat); Mrs. Winters the sheep (village matriarch with tested faith); Mrs. Thompson (73, elegant, monocle on chain); and Barley the donkey (skilled at finding lost things).
